Public Forum: Europe on the brink

On May 21, 2019, the Research Chair, in collaboration with the Center for the Study of Democratic Citizenship and the Centre Jean Monnet Montréal organized a public forum entitled ‘Europe on the Brink’.

This event was an opportunity for many researchers (Laurie Beaudonnet – Université de Montréal; Ruth Dassonneville – Université de Montréal; Katjana Gatterman – University of Amsterdam; Joost van Spanje – University of Amsterdam; Jae-Jae Spoon- University of Pittsburgh; Daniel Stockemer – University of Ottawa) to showcase their findings about Europe’s challenges. During the event, these scholars discussed, amongst others, the long-standing allegation of a democratic deficit, the growth of euroskeptic forces, the unfinished exit of the United Kingdom, the tensions in international trade policy and climates changes. Considering that European Elections were right around the corner, the public forum was an exceptional occasion to understand the challenges that Europe faces.
